| 1777 | The College Youths rang 11,080 Oxford Treble Bob Royal at Shoreditch, composed and conducted by Charles Purser. This peal, which took 8 hours and 2 minutes, was one in the long peal contest with the Cumberlands. See February 17, 1777. The footnote to the peal board include such flowery phrases as "Insatiated with Glory the above select Performers" rang "a complete Peal of 11,080 changes....which will be transmitted to posterity as a Masterpiece of the Art." | PB |
